Lock Out/Tag Out (LOTO)
2 hours - The OSHA standard and the need to identify various types of energy, as well as the need to develop detailed shutdown and lockout procedures for each piece of equipment will be reviewed. Students will learn the proper procedures for a safe shutdown, lock out, and restoration of energy, Examples of safety measures and the various types of lockout devices will also be discussed. This class will also review the basics of electrical safety during maintenance, service, or installation of equipment.

Required upon initial assignment and retraining as needed.

Retraining shall be provided for all authorized and affected employees whenever there is a change in their job assignments, a change in machines, equipment or processes that present a new hazard, or when there is a change in the energy control procedures.

Additional retraining shall also be conducted whenever a periodic inspection under paragraph (c)(6) of this section reveals, or whenever the employer has reason to believe that there are deviations from or inadequacies in the employee's knowledge or use of the energy control procedures.

Participant Assignment Upon Return to Employer: Review the Lock Out/Tag Out Program for their facility, as well as the procedures for shutdown and locking out for applicable equipment and machinery.

Regulatory (OSHA 1910.147) for supervisors and employees who work on or around machinery, including vehicles. Any employee who maintains, services, adjusts, etc. machinery or equipment, as well as employees working around machinery who must be aware of Lock Out / Tag Out procedures.
